The Cobra Infrared Illuminators were originally conceived as way to improve the onboard and subsequently weaker infrared illuminators supplied as standard to many video cameras with `0` lux capability.
The newer MiniDV and HD video camcorders seem to be very much weaker when filming video on night mode when compared to the older analogue (Hi8) versions.
The output is very poor in quality with little background definition. The Cobra compensates and gives you excellent clarity and depth to the subject material.
The major camera suppliers have attempted to remedy these shortfalls by producing `hot shoe` infrared attachments, but in truth are poor substitutes for the demands of the serious night time video user.
These lights can be fitted to any `0` lux video camera regardless as to whether or not a `hot shoe` is fitted as can be seen by the demonstrator photographs.
Sony have attempted to remedy this problem further with the SonyHVL-IRM Infrared Illuminator, but there are marked differences.
Firstly, the Sony Illuminator only throws out a narrow beam of infrared light, whereas the Cobra produces an evenly spread beam of light that encompasses the whole screen over any distance and easily upto 80`. The Sony produces a `hotspot` which is adjustable, but no even diffusion of light.
The Sony version can only work within a small area leaving the rest of the screen dark.
Although the manufacturers claim a viewing distance of 100`,

The Cobra light is ruggedly constructed from metal and is bolted to the viewing arm, whereas the Sony version is manufactured from lightweight plastic and lightly connected to it`s viewing arm making it liable to accidental damage when working in total darkness.
The Cobra is small and compact, whereas the Sony light is considered bulky. Also there is the added cost of power supply. Unless you own a compatible video camera to re-charge the battery for the Sony, you will have to buy the battery charger as well.
The Cobra uses for video sessions a 4R25 battery (leads supplied with unit) which is cheap to buy, easy to replace and lasts for hours! If the Sony version goes flat you have the added choice of 2 AA batteries, but these have a short period of life, and would not serve you well if you intend to video all night, - a situation not apparent with the Cobra.
The 28 LED illuminators will treble or quadruple whatever the on-board camera system can provide, making clear and sharp imagery within a range of up to 50 feet and further with defining visibilty to 80 feet! Most camcoders can only reach 10 feet, and then only partially aided by normally weak `hot shoe` attachments.
Fitted with a slide switch the lights can be activated or deactivated easily, making long outdoor shots a reality, and can revert to normal viewing when videoing in close or confined areas.
They also have use in video surveillance or simple nature watching from a safe distance - the choice is yours.
The illuminators under normal eyesight are invisible, and only in conjunction with a video camcorder can you see the results.
This system has been extensively field tested and has consistently proved to be an absolute boon for paranormal or nature watching, and has produced fantastic results now thought impossible.
The new `Cobra Lite` is an improved second version which produces the same output but with more functionability for the camera operator and is lighter to hold and use. Also the cost has been reduced from the more expensive and cumbersome Mark 1 version which was heavier and required both the hands of the video user to operate. The Cobra series of illuminators are the result of many months research and development.
All parts are securely fastened with powerful adhesives to ensure safe rugged use in outdoor locations.
*FOR ALL WORLD PAYMENTS - EXCEPT NORTH & SOUTH AMERICA.
Here is a short promotional video which shows the illuminator in action and in a variety of locations.
No artificial lights were used to boost the output from these lights.
All clips were filmed in total darkness.
Note: Due to a variation in the power performance of a PP9 battery, we do not recommend you use this battery, it is recommended using an 4R25 battery only.
In this second demonstration video tape, you will see how effective the Cobra Illuminator is over measured distances ranging from 20`, to 110`.
This unit is much more powerful than similar units sold by the major camcorder manufacturers.
See our comparison video below.
In this third demonstration video, the Cobra Lite Illuminator is compared directly to the Sony Infrared illuminator the HVL-IRC.
Up to 20` the output was similar, but beyond this distance the Sony failed.
Further, the Sony projected a squarish light beam which had a dark spot in the middle.
Over further distances the light beam from the Sony migrated to the bottom left hand corner of the viewing window.
